Furniture is a key aspect of an interior fit-out and should be considered at an early stage. The member of staff responsible for this project appreciated this and was able to discuss requirements with Rigg in plenty time for an installation out of term time. Manufacturing was completed in a timely manner at the Kings Norton factory.
It would have been quite easy to have specified basic products with limited scope. However, for this scheme both materials and a variety of models were considered.
Rectangular dining tables were selected for perimeter areas as they tessellate well and thus make efficient use of space. This is further enhanced by benches which can be tucked underneath when not in use.
The central zone was equipped with generously sized circular pedestal tables. Standard, small bistro cafe tables could have been used but it was felt that these would have insufficient capacity.
A high bar combined with tall stools was also incorporated for variety.
Material & Style Choice
Solid wood with a character finish was employed for the tops. Bases and other metalwork were treated with a satin clear finish. The aesthetic result created an ambience suitable for young adults, as might be found in a fashionable commercial coffee shop or cafe-diner. CCSS have successfully created a separate canteen area, decidedly different in style where students can not only eat but take a break, rest, relax and undertake informal study.
