This fit-out case study features a set of large high quality tables supplied to the London design studio of a large luxury fashion brand.
The items are all based on the Rigg Modela model which has large, thick steel A frame legs. The metalwork was powder coated in a clear finish for a lightly characterful industrial patina. A veriety of tops were fitted according to the potential application within the workspace. Also both long-high and low sizes were specified.
Examples shown here include:
- a 12-seater solid wood conference table
- a tall work bench with thick plywood and smooth laminate/HPL surface (standing or high stool seating)
- an 8-person meeting and collaboration table
Many of the tops were split and made in 2-parts to aid delivery and installation. In some cases the electrical access flaps were located centrally on a join so the accurate cutting was essential. The birch plywood on some of the furniture edges made for an attractive detail.
Provision of lighting, power, data and cable management increased user-friendliness. These components were considered at the design stage so that appropriate cut-outs and covers could be CNC machined during manufacture. This is a straightforward task as Rigg has its own in-house equipment.
Finishes
A selection of complementary treatments was applied including:
- oak, clear laqcuered
- oak, whitewashed
- thick plywood with white laminate surface
Usage
In-line with the multidisciplinary nature of the company, the tables have potential uses as:
- Design development - eg. drawing and sketching
- Prototyping - muslin fabric work, sew-by, sales samples, top of production examination
- Commercial work - discussions and planning
