To create an industrial, rugged space we have many options to choose from. A possibility, presented here includes the use of round tubes and cast metal bosses and joints. This creates the effect of an improvised, laissez-faire "vibe".  This is not to suggest flimsiness. On the contrary, the clear lacquered steel and chunky joints not only look purposeful but are genuinely substantial and strong.

Materials

Besides the distinctive legs and frame discussed above, a variety of tops are available. A popular choice is timber including characterful solid oak. Hardwood and birch plywood can also work well if an alternative to timber is sought.

Further surface possibilities include:

  • zinc
  • copper
  • brass
  • high pressure laminates (HPL)
