Different applications have differing requirements. For example a tiny cafe might have small tables with a central leg to maximise leg room.
Other considerations include:
- space for chairs
- comfortable to be around (eg. rounded corners so that 90 degree corners are not bumped into)
An advatage of square tables is the ease with which they tesselate. This can help with room layout and also allow several tables to be pushed together.
