Wooden Desk with Metal Legs Wooden Desk Top for Metal Legs

A wide variety of materials are available to those looking for a table to work at, but a good place to start is a wooden desk with metal legs. This combination can create a warm, comfortable feel. If the appropriate finishes are chosen it can ooze contemporary, industrial chic - such as in the image shown here. After careful selection of high quality timber and other parts our products are carefully handmade in the UK.

If your space is a loft apartment then this style can coordinate well with existing furniture and quirky finds. Whereas if you have a small, simple, perhaps contemporary office then a wooden desk with metal legs can bring much needed character.

Rigg makes a number of models including Grafik - and if birch plywood is counted as wood in this context then also the Simpl design.

Wood Types

We offer several species and formats including:

  • Standard Timber "Softwood" (it's not actually soft!)
  • European Oak
  • Birch Plywood
The first 2 in this list are natural, solid wooden panels - whereas a plywood is a clever laminated approach. The latter still uses real wood in its making which can be seen on the outer layer. It has the advantage of being very stable and strong.

Metal Legs & Frame

Typically we use steel to construct the supporting structure of our tables and desks.

Metalwork Sizes

When using steel tube these are common sizes in Rigg furniture:

  • 25mm
  • 30mm
  • 50mm

The larger size of 50mm would tend to be used on products such as our Quad Table. 30mm square tube is used for the whole frame and legs of the Grafik Desk.

When attaching the metal legs to the frame we typically use MIG welding. This gives a very strong permanent joint.

Contrary to other metal desk frame designs we leave our welds unadulterated. Therefore when clear lacquered you can see the interesting nature of the welded joint. When powder coated the whole assembly is coloured. We prefer this approach as it honestly reflects the nature of the product.

Some of our tables such as Loop have removable legs. In this case the sections are usually bolted together. This has the advantage of being easier to deliver and position in your space. The tools required for assembly are usually easily-available types such as an allen key as you might get with other furniture. On many occasions your delivery will be by our transport who will carry out installation for you.
